The process of securing a job as a physical therapist for a foreign professional in New York State can be broken up into three steps:
1. Accreditation
2. Licensure
3. Visa Processing
Please note that these processes are not controlled by us and it is governmental policies so we can not influence the results of the exams. Nevertheless, we seek new employees so we are intended to your success as much as you, so we will assist you in each step of the process.
The accreditation review will identify any credit deficiencies. We will help identify the correct course of studies that you may undertake to make up the deficiency and re-apply.
Once your academic credentials are verified, we will assist you with the preparations for the licensing examination. You may prepare for the exam wherever you prefer. However, you will have to come to the New York to take the exam. We will guide and assist you every step of the way in this process.
The exam is entirely theoretical; there is no practical part to the exam. It consists of 250 multiple choice questions. You will have 5 hours to complete the exam.
The exam is administered every 3 months (4 times per year). If you fail, you will have to retake it again when you are ready.
There are TOEFL test centers through out Europe. You can also take the exam when you are in the United States.
Once your academic credentials are verified, you will be allowed to take the New York State licensing exam. Once you receive the license to practice physical therapy in New York, we will be able to formally extend you a job offer and provide you with an employment contract.
We do not provide employment contracts or extend job offers unless a candidate has passed the New York licensing exam. If you have any particular questions regarding the terms of the contract, please ask us directly.
Successful candidates will be offered employment in medical offices in New York City.
While the salary can vary greatly depending on the number of hours you work per week; the average annual salary is approximately $90,000 before taxes are paid. The taxes will vary on your personal circumstances. While your beginning salary is important, it is worth noting that by taking advantage of our services, you will not only have the ability to make a good living in New York but also have the opportunity to legally immigrate to the United States and build a very prosperous future in America.
While we are not in the business of providing lodging for our employees, our staff can direct and assist you with finding a suitable place for living in New York.
While each case has to be evaluated separately, in general, your spouse and children under 21 years of age would be eligible to accompany you to the United States. Your spouse would be eligible to apply for an employment authorization document.
Fees associated with each step:
1. Accreditation: TOTAL: $1,620 includes:
a. Foreign Credentialing Commission of Physical Therapy (FCCPT) fees: $1,400
b. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) fees: $220
2. Licensure: TOTAL: $860 includes:
a. National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) fee: $560
b. New York State Education Department (NYSED) fee: $300
3. Visa Processing: TOTAL: $4,750 includes:
a. United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) fee $1,750
b. Legal Fees: $3,000
